We now know that oral cancer claims one life every hour in the U.S. and it is of great concern to our practice.Almost 70% of all oral cancer victims are diagnosed in later stages, so survival is extremely poor – approximately 50% of oral cancer victims die within 5 years. However, when discovered in its early stages, oral cancer is 90% survivable.
Alarmingly, more than 25% of oral cancer victims have no lifestyle risk factors (tobacco/alcohol use/diabetes/HIV). All patients age 18 and older are at increased risk for oral cancer. Patients at high risk for oral cancer are adults age 40 and older, and tobacco users regardless of age. Patients at highest risk for oral cancer are those age 40 and older with lifestyle risk factors (tobacco use, alcohol use, diabetes, HIV), and those patients with a history of oral cancer.
Because early detection of oral cancer is the key to successful outcomes, our practice has incorporated Identafi 3000 Ultra, the most advanced technology available for screening oral abnormalities that could lead to cancer, into the standard of care of the practice.
An annual Identafi 3000 Ultra examination, following our standard oral cancer examination, will ensure that you receive the most comprehensive oral cancer screening possible. Identafi 3000 Ultra gives us the highest level of confidence that we’re providing our patients with the most thorough oral screening available.
Identafi 3000 Ultra is a simple, painless and non-invasive device that improves our ability to visualize suspicious areas at their earliest stages, before they can progress to something far more serious, and potentially life-threatening.
Identafi 3000 Ultra helps the doctor and hygienist see what would be very hard to see with their eyes alone.
